A New Prevention Program for Our Community!
Our school is working with the Central Vermont Prevention Coalition (CVPC) and Central Vermont Medical Center on a program called FUTURE VT (Families Uniting to Understand & Resolve Substance Effects in Vermont). This program is paid for by a five-year federal grant. It focuses on helping kids avoid alcohol and cannabis (marijuana) by using proven, supportive strategies.
One part of the program is a
Social Norms Campaign in our middle school. Throughout the year, students will start to see posters, floor decals, and other messages around school. These are meant to help students understand healthy choices and what most kids really do—not just what they hear or think others are doing.
You might hear your student talk about what they’re seeing at school or ask questions. To help parents and caregivers feel ready for these talks, we’re also sharing tools from the
"Talk. They Hear You." campaign. This national program gives tips to help adults talk with kids about alcohol and other substances.
We’ll continue to share what we’re doing at school and offer helpful resources and ways for you to stay involved. We’re excited to work together to build a healthy, informed community for our students and families.
